Over Easter weekend I tried to find a movie to watch with my mother. We came across Transsiberian and it sounded thrilling and promising. It was long, drawn out and overall boring! This really surprised me because of the great actors in the film. Woody Harrelson, Emily Mortimer and Ben Kingsley.
The movie is about Roy and Jessie (Harrelson and Mortimer), an American couple traveling from China to Russia on the train. They meet another couple who are intriguing and mysterious. After some drug smuggling and deceit the American couple meets Grinko (Kingsley) a narcotics detective who is also deceitful. At this point the movie takes too many silly turns.
The movie was so absolutely boring the first hour that it tried to make up for it in the last 30 minutes. It didn’t work. It just ended up being confusing and felt rushed. Mortimer’s character was a very sweet woman, it was too hard to believe that she used to be a hardcore, sex-crazed partier. Harrelson was good at playing a hapless man. He is very cute in this film and it was nice to see him in a more serious role. Kingsley’s role was disappointing. He could have offered so much more because he’s a stellar actor but the part he filled just didn’t allow for it.
