I just finished watching Sunshine Cleaning and it was such a good movie. It had all the elements you want in a movie…lots of character development and background, humor, sadness, new relationships forming, heartache, bonding, etc. The film was directed by Christine Jeffs, who is fairly rookie, having only directed three films before this one. The cast was wonderful! With Amy Adams, Emily Blunt, Alan Arkin, Steve Zahn and Clifton Collins Jr.
The plot line has a lot of layers to it. Sisters Rose and Norah lost their mother around 10 years ago and have had a hard life growing up with a single-father who doesn’t have much luck in the food industry. Rose is a single mother who works as a cleaning lady and has an affair with a married cop. In order to earn more money to attend real estate classes, Rose recruits her stoner sister to work as a crime scene/biohazard cleaner.
There were a lot of humorous elements within the film, I mean working as a crime scene cleaner gives for a lot of opportunity. At the same time there were a lot of scenes that revealed the vulnerabilities of the characters and really made the viewer empathize with them.
